Today, the Supreme Court of Iceland confirmed that a man in his thirties be detained on suspicion of having caused the death of a man in his fifties at a home in Akranes, West Iceland, last Friday, RÚV reports.

Friday, October 2, police was called to a house in Akranes, along with a medical team, after receiving reports about an unconscious man. Police found a witness at the scene, who had started administering CPR.

The unconscious man was transported to the emergency room of Landspítali University Hospital in Fossvogur, Reykjavík, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit and kept asleep on a ventilator.

He passed away this afternoon. His name cannot be made public at this time.

When police arrived, another man in his forties was at the scene. He was arrested shortly after on suspicion of attempted murder. The District Court of West Iceland ordered his detention through October 14. That ruling was appealed to the Supreme Court, which confirmed the detention today.

The case is being investigated by the West Iceland Police in cooperation with the technical team of the Greater Reykjavík Police.
