Southbound Gullinbrú bridge, Reykjavík, has been closed because of a twelve car collision, RÚV reports. At 11:45, the emergency phone service 112 received a call reporting a ten-car accident. Emergency vehicles were sent on location. Police blocked the road, resulting in another car colliding with the police car, bringing the total of damaged cars to 12.

A driver coming from Grafavogur is believed to have been blinded by the sun, causing him to collide with the vehicle in front of him, followed by eight cars which all rear-ended one another.

Four people were transported by ambulance to Landspítali University Hospital, but their injuries are not believed to be serious.
