The City of Reykjavík will celebrate Grýla’s Fest in the City Hall’s Christmas Woods today. The program begins at 3 pm and concludes at 5 pm.

To celebrate the centennial anniversary of women’s right to vote, the Christmas Woods will focus on celebrating one of the country’s most influential female figures.

Grýla is generally feared among children, known for putting naughty ones in a bag and having them for dinner. She’s neither famous for cleanliness nor decent vocabulary. Her looks are scary, to say the least.

She is the mother of the Yule lads and the wife of Leppalúði. The Fest will offer entertainment and education about her in the form of music and discussion.

Warning: Grýla herself may make an appearance.
