High Hopes for White Christmas

The forecast for Christmas weather is becoming clearer the nearer the big day draws, and while meteorologists have been expecting warm weather with squally winds in South Iceland now this weekend, there should be good weather across the entire country in the days until Christmas.

On Christmas Eve, this Thursday, the forecast calls for gentle northerly winds and scattered hail showers—windier and with falling snow towards the eastern coast.

“It will be very cold across the whole country. A chilly Christmas Eve, but fine weather nevertheless,” Met Office meteorologist Þorsteinn V. Jónsson told RÚV.

“As the forecast stands now, it looks like there will be reasonably wintry weather over the coming week. As we were talking about before, the forecast for Thursday, Christmas Eve, is good and we shall hope it remains that way,” he says.

But is it yet possible to say whether or not we can look forward to a white Christmas? “The way it looks at the moment, we are in cold air, small lows and depressions across the country. Therefore there is a good likelihood of a white Christmas, pretty much everywhere in the country.”
