A masseur in his 70s has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for sexual assault against a female client.

The man took advantage of the woman while she was lying on his massage couch dressed only in disposable underwear.

The defendant admitted his guilt, and the charges included having inserted a finger into the woman’s vagina, massaged her breasts and kissed her on the mouth.

The Reykjanes District Court verdict states that the unnamed man had no previous criminal record and that he regrets what he did. On the other hand, the verdict highlights that his crime was a serious one and was an attack on the woman’s gender rights, Vísir reported.

The verdict states that the man abused the trust that the woman placed in him when she sought his professional services. The verdict also notes that the event had a negative impact on the woman’s mental health for several months, when she had to seek a therapist’s help.

The prosecution had called for ISK 1.8 million in compensation from the man, but the court ordered him to pay her ISK 800,000 (EUR 5,650/USD 6,100).
