The storm that passed over the East Fjords this morning has caused property damage, RÚV reports. Rafey, an electrical repairs shop, sustained damage in the millions of ISK early this morning when wind gusts blew off 700 square meters (7,534 square feet) of roofing sheets. Rescue workers were called out. The shop will be closed for the next few days, according to Máni Sigfússon, one of the owners. “The whole place is flooded,” he said.

Heavy rain and melting snow have caused basements to flood, both in Egilsstaðir and Neskaupsstaður. In Neskaupsstaður, Konráðslækur creek swelled, causing the basements of two houses to flood. Drains have clogged and apartments in a home for the elderly have also flooded.

Water has also caused damage in the north. The roof of the hospital clinic in Dalvík had to be cleared of snow after water began leaking inside.

Winds in the east should die down this afternoon and temperatures are expected to drop.

The Icelandic Road Authority warns travelers of swelling rivers, which have inundated roads in the East Fjords. Extreme caution must be shown when driving in such wet conditions.
