A police officer in the narcotics division of the Greater Reykjavík Police is in custody, suspected of a serious violation on the job, according to RÚV.

He is being held in isolation at Litla-Hraun prison, Vísir reports.

His colleagues are said to be shocked, and they have been offered crisis counseling. Police Chief Sigríður Björk Guðjónsdóttir says she is unable to provide further information regarding the case.

Vísir reports that the man is suspected of a serious violation regarding communication with individuals under investigation by the narcotics division.

The officer was detained December 29. He is in his forties and has worked in the narcotics division for over a decade.
