Jóhann Jóhannsson was today nominated for an Oscar for his music in the film Sicario. This is Jóhann’s second Oscar nomination. His music in the film The Theory of Everything was nominated last year. For that film, he received a Golden Globe Award. The Oscar ceremony is scheduled in Los Angeles for February 28.
As mbl.is points out, Jóhann will not be competing with newcomers in the field, because the four other composers nominated for the Oscar this year have received a total of 70 such nominations in their careers. They are Thomas Newman for his music in Bridge of Spies, Carter Burwell for Carol, Ennio Morricone for The Hateful Eight and John Williams for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Jóhann’s music to Sicario has already been nominated for a Grammy and a BAFTA award.
