For more than one hundred years, the people of Ísafjörður have celebrated Sun Day (sólardagur), January 25, the day the sun returns in town after a two-month absence, bb.is reports. Don’t let it confuse you that Sun Day can fall on any day of the week, this time on a Monday.

On this occasion, the resident enjoy sólarkaffi (sun coffee) and sólarpönnukökur (sun pancakes), both at home and at offices and businesses throughout town.
