A man was arrested yesterday morning, suspected of putting Hótel Ljósaland, West Iceland, on fire. RÚV reports the man in question is the owner of the hotel. He will be in custody through February 4, Vísir reports.

Police were called out to the hotel at 5 am because of a drunk man, reported to be going berserk by the hotel. Half an hour later, a fire was reported at the hotel and fire fighters called out.

One third of the building that houses eight guestrooms has collapsed, and the rest is badly damaged from fire, smoke and soot. There were no guests at the hotel and no one was injured.

According to Vísir, more than ten people have been questioned regarding the fire.

The hotel rooms were recently opened, according to RÚV. The building closer to the highway has been converted from a store and gas station into a restaurant, bar and hotel reception. The hotel was able to accommodate 18 guests, but additional rooms were being remodeled. They were to be opened this spring.

The fire is being investigated by the West Iceland Police.
