One man has been arrested in connection with yesterday’s fire in an auto body shop near downtown Reykjavík, RÚV reports. The whereabouts of another man, who had been sought by police for the same reason, are known. An arrest warrant is expected to be issued against him later today. The source of the fire remains unknown, since investigation has been impeded by the risk of the building’s roof collapsing.
According to police, the investigation is at an initial stage, data is being analyzed, and it remains unclear whether additional people are connected to the case.
A statement from police yesterday revealed that two men were seen in the vicinity of the building after the fire erupted. They appeared to be coming from the building, carrying some items. One of them is believed to have been carrying a flat screen. According to police, it is unclear whether those were stolen items.
