For the second year in a row, the culinary feast Goût de France, also promoted as Good France, is around the corner.

The event is the joint effort of more than 1,700 chefs in five continents, who on Monday, March 21, will prepare meals inspired by French cuisine. Participating restaurants are asked to put together a typical French menu, including an apéritif and canapés, an hors d’oeuvre, main course, cheese, dessert, red and white French wines, and Champagne.

There is an emphasis on using fat, sugar and salt sparingly, stressing healthy ingredients, good for the environment. Organizers encourage participants to donate five percent of proceeds from the event to organizations supporting health and the environment. The restaurants range from casual to fine dining, and they set their own prices.

French dinners will also be served at 150 French embassies around the world, including the one in Reykjavík.

Participating chefs and restaurants in Reykjavík are the following:

Arnar Ingi Magnússon, from Vín og Skel

Fridgeir Ingi Eiriksson, from Gallery, Hótel Holt

Hákon Már Örvarsson, from Kitchen and Wine

Stefán Elí Stefánsson, from Perlan

Stefan Melsted, from Snaps

Sveinn Kjartansson, from Aalto Bistro, the Nordic House

Jónas Oddur Björnsson will prepare a gala dinner at the French ambassador’s residence.

Journalists got a taste of the feast yesterday at the residence of French Ambassador Philippe O’Quin, where the event was introduced. Judging by the samples served, some of which you see in the photos, the upcoming event will be no less a feast for the eyes than the palate.
