Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture Sigurður Ingi Jóhannsson told the press a few minutes ago that he and Finance Minister Bjarni Bendiktsson have reached an agreement on who will replace Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson as prime minister. First, they will meet with members of parliament in the parliamentary building to inform them of their decision, before sharing it with the media.
PM Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson stepped down from his post on Tuesday, following revelations that he has ties to a company in the tax haven Tortola. That came to light when millions of documents were leaked from a notorious law firm in Panama. There was a massive demonstration in Reykjavík on Monday, where Icelanders demanded Sigmundur’s resignation.
