Gunnar Nelson convincingly beat Russian Albert Tumenov in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, last night. His performance is by many regarded his best UFC fight so far, according to Vísir.
Tumenov had won five fights in a row and ranked 13th on UFC’s Welterweight fighter list. Gunnar had dropped off that list, but will now get back on it.
Gunnar took Tumenov down during the second frame, and the fight ended in a rear naked choke. Gunnar’s performance was strong from the beginning of the fight; he remained standing for a long time and then dealt Tumenov sudden blows.
After the fight, Gunnar declared, “I’d like to use the opportunity to dedicate this victory to my mother, since it’s Mother’s Day.” He added, “Now, I’ll discuss the future with the men on my team and then we’ll see who I fight next.”
Gunnar received a tiny cut by one of his eyes during the fight. “I think I got the cut when he thrust his fingers full force into my face. I got a finger in my eye and saw rather poorly for a while afterwards,” Gunnar explained. Still, the recovery was quick and nothing can prevent Gunnar from seeing great opportunities ahead.
