The Association of Icelandic Visual Artists (SÍM) has voiced amazement over how quickly Ásmundarsalur, a building on Freyjugata, Reykjavík, was sold. The building, which has housed the art collection of the Icelandic Confederation of Labor (Listasafn ASÍ), was sold to Aðalheiður Magnúsdóttir and Sigurbjörn Þorkelsson last week, less than a week after it was listed for sale, RÚV reports. Sigurbjörn is an investor and the board director for Fossar Markets, a securities firm. The couple state they intend to open a design and art center in the building.
SÍM believes a deadline for turning in offers should have been publicly advertised.
The association wants a timeline to be in place regarding when a new exhibition space will be available for the art collection of the Icelandic Confederation of Labor.
