Iceland beat England 2-1 in Nice tonight! The fairy tale continues!
The much anticipated game at the Allianz Riviera stadium in Nice didn’t begin well for Iceland. Only four minutes into the game, England’s Wayne Rooney scored from a penalty kick, brought about after Raheem Sterling was taken down by goalie Hannes Þór Halldórsson, but that didn’t crush the Icelandic spirit.
Only a minute went by and then Ragnar Sigurðsson managed to put the ball into the English net, driving the fans wild.
Then, 20 minutes into the game, Kolbeinn Sigþórsson scored Iceland’s second goal.
Ragnar Sigurðsson came close to scoring in the 56th minute, with an amazing bicycle kick straight at goalie Joe Hart, who saved it.
It was a very fast-paced game, and the roughly 3,000 Icelandic spectators managed to let themselves be heard, despite being outnumbered by the English who were ten times as many.
Iceland meets France at Stade de France in Paris on Sunday.
