The residents of towns in the vicinity of Keflavík International Airport plan to receive our football heroes when they arrive from France today by lining up along the road from the airport, Víkurfréttir reports.
The Icelandic men’s national football team’s flight from Lyon is scheduled to land at 5:20 pm. On social media, people are encouraged to line up all along the road from the airport, sporting their blue Icelandic jerseys and waving the Icelandic flag.
A bus will take the team to Arnarhóll in downtown Reykjavík, where an official reception is planned.
The team will then ride an open top bus from Hallgrímskirkja church at 7 pm with a police escort toward Arnarhóll.
Police request that people use public transport, or park their cars well away from downtown.
Prime Minister Sigurður Ingi Jóhannsson will address the team at Arnarhóll, on behalf of the Icelandic nation. President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson will be present. Among those who will perform are musicians Friðrik Dór and Erna Hrönn.
