Hard as it may be to swallow, the Viking chant made famous by Icelandic football fans at the EURO 2016 in France has made it into a Coca-Cola commercial, according to RÚV.
We reported last week that after France beat Germany 2-0 on Thursday night at the EURO 2016 in Marseille, the French team borrowed Iceland’s celebratory Viking chant to the enthusiastic response of French fans.
Clearly, someone from Coca-Cola figured it would sell well, for it was featured in a Coca-Cola ad which ran on French TV at half time during the final game in the championship last night, when France lost to Portugal 0-1.
According to mbl.is, Icelanders learned the chant from the fans of Motherwell, a Scottish football team, and fans of the Stjarnan football team in Garðabær brought it to Iceland in 2014 after their team had competed against Motherwell in Scotland.
