Every day brings news of the travels of the Viking chant, made famous by the supporters of the Icelandic men’s national football team at the EURO 2016 in France. Vísir reports it has made it all the way to the island nation of Papua New Guinea, north of Australia, which is about as far away from Iceland as you can go without embarking on a trip to the moon.
The team that has begun practicing the Viking chant is the U20 women’s national football team of Papua New Guinea. They will be competing on their home field at the Women’s World Cup, to be held in Papua New Guinea November 13- December 3. This will be the first time the U-20 team competes at a world championship.
