Sara Björk Gunnarsdóttir, a member of the Icelandic women’s national football team, ranks 19th -23rd on the UEFA Best Women’s Player in Europe list. According to mbl.is, this is the first time an Icelander, man or woman, makes a list of Europe’s best football players.
The list was selected by the coaches of Europe’s 12 top-ranked countries, plus those of the eight teams participating in last season’s UEFA Women Champions League quarter-finals. Only 39 women made the list.
The top ten women on the list compete for the 2015/16 UEFA Best Women's Player in Europe Award, which will be announced on August 25. The jury will be made up of coaches as well as journalists.
