According to a new MMR poll, conducted July 15-22, 49.6 percent of Icelanders plan to travel abroad during their summer vacation. Never before have as many planned to travel abroad since polls regarding the travel plans of Icelanders were first conducted in 2011. In 2013, that proportion was 35.2 percent.
Fewer Icelanders intend to spend their summer vacation traveling in Iceland than in recent years, or 70.9 percent, compared with 82.8 percent in 2013.
Only 14.7 percent of Icelanders do not plan to travel at all this summer, compared with 16 percent last year.
Those planning to travel abroad only are 14.4 percent, compared with 7.1 percent in 2013.
Residents of the capital area are likelier to plan a trip in Iceland (73.3 percent) than those who live in rural areas (66.5 percent). Higher income families are likelier than others to plan trips both abroad and in Iceland.
Respondents were 906, all of them 18 and older.
