Reykjavík has been unusually warm and sunny for the past week. People have been strolling the streets, tanning by the swimming pools and generally been very lazy as the sun has been showing its beautiful face every day. From early in the morning until very late it has only wandered briefly behind a thin cloud.
The sunsets have been, well heavenly. The sun sets at 22.40 tonight here in Reykjavík, but it is not dark until after midnight. And then the sun rises again at 4.25, so there is not much time for sleep.
The coming weekend is the so-called Merchants’ Weekend (Verslunarmannahelgi), when many people, and most of the younger generations, leave the City to party, e.g. in Vestmannaeyjar and Siglufjörður. So who need sleep?
