Icelandic Flag Bearer Chosen for Olympics

Judoka Þormóður Árni Jónsson has been chosen to be the Icelandic flag bearer at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro tomorrow night, RÚV reports.

Þormóður, who is 33 years old, is a member of the Reykjavík Judo Association. He has practiced judo since the age of 6. These will be his third Olympic games, but he also took part in the games in Beijing in 2008 and in London in 2012.

Eight Icelandic athletes will compete at the Olympics. In addition to Þormóður Árni, they are swimmers Hrafnhildur Lúthersdóttir, Anton Sveinn McKee and Eygló Ósk Gústafsdóttir, gymnast Irina Sazonova, javelin thrower Ásdís Hjálmsdóttir, track athlete Anita Hinriksdóttir and discus thrower Guðni Valur Guðnason.
