The Icelandic men’s national football team beat Turkey 2-0 at Laugardalsvöllur arena, Reykjavík, tonight in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, to be held in Russia.
Iceland, thus, has earned seven points in Group I, as has Croatia, but the Croatian team beat Finland tonight, 1-0, according to RÚV.
The Icelandic team was strong throughout the game and scored the first goal during the 42nd minute. Theodór Elmar Bjarnason shot the ball from a 20 m distance. It landed in the net, but touched Omer Toprak first, so the goal is not officially in Theodór’s name.
Only two minutes later, Alfreð Finnbogason scored Iceland’s second goal.
This was Iceland’s third game in the qualifiers. The first game, against Ukraine, ended in a draw, 1-1, while the second one ended with Iceland beating Finland, 3-2.
