The crew of the trawler, which was drifting close to the south coast of Iceland this morning, succeeded in restarting the ship’s engine a short while ago, mbl.is reports. Gylfi Kjartansson, captain of Gnúpur, stated that the ship is now sailing again.
When the engine failure occurred at about 8:30 am, the trawler was located two nautical miles from Dyrhólaey.
The pilot and rescue boat from Vestmannaeyjar islands have, therefore, turned back to the islands. The ship Bergey, which was in the vicinity, has also left the area.
A request for assistance from rescue teams has been canceled.
