The Icelandic teenage girls’ gymnastics team has just won gold at the 11th European TeamGym Championships in Maribor, Slovenia, mbl.is reports. The team ranked first going into the final routine, which was trampoline. Denmark won the silver and Sweden the bronze.
The Icelandic team earned the highest score of all teams for their floor routine and trampoline, and second highest for tumbling.
The Icelandic mixed teenage team did very well, too, and won bronze, RÚV reports. Coaches and team members were delighted once the results came in. Iceland’s floor routine impressed the judges and secured the team third place.
“We’ve been aiming at this since June and have worked hard to get here,” commented Íris Helgadóttir, and added that standing on the podium was an incredible feeling.
The mixed teenage team from Denmark won the gold and Norway the silver.
