The bus company Guðmundur Tyrfingsson ehf. has purchased an electrical bus from the Chinese bus manufacturer Yutong, which is the world’s largest manufacturer of buses, mbl.is reports.

It will be the first electrical bus in Iceland. The bus has arrived in Gothenburg, Sweden, and will be on display there at the transportation show Persontrafik 2016 October 18-20. Persontrafik is the largest bus show in the Nordic countries.

The bus, called E12, is specifically designed for conditions in Nordic countries, according to a statement from Guðmundur Tyrfingsson ehf. The bus is 12 m long and can transport up to 33 passengers. The batteries have a 295 kWh charging capacity and will have a range of 320 km. The batteries, which are located on the roof and the back of the bus, can last 4,000 cycles.

Large bus companies in Scandinavia have shown interest in the bus and are planning meetings to discuss possible orders.

The bus will be delivered to Guðmundur Tyrfingsson after the transportation show. Then, it will be transported to Iceland.
