Due to heavy rain and very windy conditions, all flights of Air Iceland are on hold and Eagle Air has canceled all flights today. Air Iceland will reevaluate the status of its schedule later in the afternoon, Vísir reports.
The Icelandic Met Office has issued a strong gale warning for West Iceland and the highlands today.
The Reykjavík Metropolitan Fire Department is urging parents and guardians of children under the age of 12 to pick them up from school or recreational activities at the end of the day, rather than letting them walk home. This decision was made after consulting with the Icelandic Met Office.
Strætó canceled bus service 57 between Reykjavík and Akranes, scheduled at 1:15 and 1:30 pm. The schedule will be reevaluated at 3 pm. Bus lines 58 and 82 in the Snæfellsnes peninsula were canceled today. The outlook is for Strætó bus service between Reykjavík and Akureyri to be canceled this afternoon.
Wind gusts could reach up to 40 m/sec. Hazardous conditions could develop on Reykjanesbraut road, between Keflavík International Airport and Reykjavík, where water accumulates in tire tracks, accompanied by strong winds.
