Yesterday, church bells in Iceland tolled for three minutes at 5 pm to bring attention to the situation in Aleppo, Syria. That will be repeated daily for a week, according to RÚV.
On the website of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Iceland, Bishop of Iceland Agnes M. Sigurðardóttir asks ministers and parish committees to remember and pray for the victims of war in Aleppo.
She encourages ministers to toll their church bells October 24-31 for three minutes at 5 pm. This effort originates in Finland, where Teemu Laajasalo, vicar of the Kallio parish, decided to use this method to bring attention to the suffering of the residents of the war-torn city.
Bells are being tolled for Aleppo in many countries of the world, in memory of the city’s victims and to demand an end to the ongoing killing. You can view a map of participating churches on this website, bellsforaleppo.org.
