This morning, the Icelandic Coast Guard received a signal from the emergency transmitter of the French sailboat Red Héol, which has been missing since summer, RÚV reports. The captain of the sail boat, Joseph Le Geoff, 64, left harbor by himself in Porto, Portugal on July 7, planning to arrive in Azores a week later.

At about 6 am, the emergency transmitter was found on the beach east of Hópsnes, a short distance southwest of Grindavík, Southwest Iceland. No other signs of the boat were found at that time.

Once the sun came up, the Coast Guard requested the assistance of rescue team in the area to search the coast. Before 8 pm, they discovered debris, believed to be from the boat. The search will continue, and the Icelandic Coast Guard helicopter has again taken off to participate in the effort.

Le Télégramme published a photo of the boat in the middle of the Atlantic on September 5, two months after it went missing. The photo, taken in late August, shows no one onboard.
