Icelandic President Guðni Th. Jóhannesson has invited Independence Party Chairman Bjarni Benediktsson to the presidential residence at Bessastaðir at 11 o’clock this morning, RÚV reports.
Possibly, the reason for the invitation is to give Bjarni the mandate to form a new government. His party emerged as the country’s largest in Saturday’s election, receiving 29.1 percent of the vote and 21 seats in parliament.
A press conference is scheduled following their meeting.
