The Icelandic men’s national handball team beat the Czech Republic 25-24 in an exciting game at Laugardalsvöllur, Reykjavík, last night in the country’s first qualifying game for the 2018 Men’s European Championship, to be held in Croatia, RÚV reports.
Iceland scored the game’s first two goals, but the Czech Republic managed to get a three-goal lead, 4-7. Then, the Icelandic team scored five times in a row, bringing the score to 12-10 at half time. The second half of the game was very exciting and when two minutes were left, the score was 25-23 for Iceland.
The player who scored the most goals during the game was Guðjón Valur Sigurðsson, who six goals for Iceland, while Rúnar Kárason and Arnór Gunnarsson scored 5 goals each. Jakub Hrstka scored five goals for the Czech Republic.
Iceland’s second qualifying game is against Ukraine on Saturday in Ukraine. The game will be broadcast live on RÚV at 4 pm.
