The leaders of three political parties, Bjarni Benediktsson of the Independence Party, Benedikt Jóhannesson of the Reform Party and Óttarr Proppé of Bright Future, talked informally last weekend about a potential government coalition.

Bjarni called President of Iceland Guðni Th. Jóhannesson yesterday to inform him about the status of the formation of a new government, as Guðni had requested when he gave Bjarni the mandate to lead coalition talks on Wednesday, Vísir reports.

What Bjarni and Guðni discussed on the phone has not been revealed and formal coalition talks have yet to be announced.
