How about flying abroad for half the amount you’d pay for a 20-minute taxi ride from downtown Reykjavík? This is not a joke. The cheapest one-way airfare available from Keflavík International Airport costs only ISK 2,400 (USD 21, EUR 20), according to turisti.is.
It’s available on January 16 with Wizz Air to Vilnius, Lithuania. The cheapest weekend rate is also to Vilnius, January 20-23, for ISK 7,800 (USD 68, EUR 65).
Next year, there will be, on average, 49 flights out of Keflavík Airport a day in January, up from 33 a day this year. The lowest fares will be available the second half of the month. The third weekend of January, you’ll be able to take a round trip to Edinburgh with easyJet for ISK 12,409 (USD 109, EUR 103), to Madrid with Norwegian for ISK 14,400 (USD 126, EUR 119), and for the same price to Budapest with Wizz Air.
A weekend trip with WOW Air to Stockholm or Edinburgh costs only a tad more. Baggage fees are additional, and they vary.
Most flights out of Keflavík are for London, the cheapest of which are with easyJet and Norwegian for ISK 5,900 (USD 52, EUR 49), while British Airways charges ISK 7,723 (USD 68, EUR 64).
