A woman in her thirties has been arrested by police, suspected of starting a fire in an apartment building in Reykjanesbær, Southwest Iceland, yesterday morning, according to mbl.is. The woman’s former boyfriend is a resident of the building and the alleged arson appears to have been aimed at him.
Police state this was not a hate crime against the rest of the building’s residents, but limited to a dispute between the two. About 30 residents live in the building, some of whom are asylum seekers, serviced by the municipality of Reykjanesbær.
The investigation is going well, according to police. The woman was suspected soon after the fire. Eight people were hospitalized due to smoke inhalation, but no one was seriously injured. When fire fighters arrived at the scene, there was fire in two different locations, creating suspicion of arson.
