An earthquake of magnitude 3.8 hit an area 3 km (0.6 miles) south of Þingvallavatn lake, Southwest Iceland, at 11:56 am, according to the Icelandic Met Office.
Numerous aftershocks followed. A tremor of magnitude 2.8 preceded the quake by half an hour. The earthquake was felt in many places in South Iceland, including the capital area.
According to RÚV, the Met Office reports that nothing out of the ordinary is occurring.
