The man who fell into a glacial crevasse on Vatnajökull glacier at noon is now safe at a cabin on Grímsfjall mountain, according to a press release from ICE-SAR. He is injured, but his injuries are not serious. He and his travel partner are both at the cabin.

Rescue workers are on the glacier and headed toward the site of the accident, by snowmobiles and 4x4s, but the Icelandic Coast Guard helicopter was unable to land on the glacier.

The first rescue workers were expected to reach the cabin shortly after 3:30 pm. They will attend to the man and bring him to medical care.
