Funeral services were held for Birna Brjánsdóttir at Hallgrímskirkja church, Reykjavík, yesterday afternoon, RÚV reports.
The 20-year-old Birna disappeared in Reykjavík on January 14. Her body was found on the south coast of Reykjanes peninsula on January 22. One man is in police custody, suspected in her death. Her violent death deeply affected the Icelandic nation.
The funeral was attended by numerous people. Birna’s friends carried her coffin. Following the funeral service, her parents invited those attending to a reception at the Icelandic National Coast Guard hangar at Reykjavík Airport.
Prior to the funeral, Birna’s parents had asked the media to show consideration and refrain from taking any close-ups of friends and family during or after the service. RÚV published a short video from the service, making sure to honor those wishes.
