The US film production company STXfilms is close to completing negotiations to produce and distribute Adrift, a survival story to be directed by Icelander Baltasar Kormákur, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The film will be based on the true story of a woman who embarks on a sailing trip from Tahiti to San Diego with her fiancé. A hurricane leaves her alone at sea, fighting to survive. The script was written on spec by Aaron and Jordan Kandell, known for working on Disney’s animated film Moana.
STX international will distribute the film in the UK and introduce the plan to distributors at the European Film Market, which begins in Berlin this week.
The film will star actress Shailene Woodley.
