“I honestly wasn’t sure if he was planning to kill himself,” remarked guide Teitur Þorkelsson, who witnessed a naked calmly walk into high waves on Djúpalónssandur beach on Snæfellsnes peninsula, RÚV reports. He caught the bizarre behavior on video and posted on Facebook with a comment, “Naked man checking out the possibility of drowning himself on Djúpalónssandur.”
“During my travels, I’ve seen many strange things, but I’ve never seen anyone go into the sea right there.”
High waves are typical at the beach, although that particular day, they were smaller than average. Teitur was traveling in Snæfellsnes when it suddenly cleared up, creating a magical moment. “Then comes this man, storming down to the beach and starts taking his clothes off.” Subsequently, he walked toward the waves. “I told him this was no riviera, but he went right back in.”
The man, a Slovak, was in a group of five or six foreign tourists who recorded his perilous behavior. “Of course this is dangerous,” Teitur remarked, although the waves that day were perhaps only a tenth of what they are at their largest.
When done fighting the waves, the man calmly walked back, sat down on the beach stark-naked and had a cup of tea from a thermos while the wind dried him off.
