At a ceremony in Stockholm this morning, Restaurant DILL has was awarded a Michelin star, one of the most prestigious marks of distinction given to restaurants. It’s the first Icelandic restaurant ever to receive such recognition. Restaurants can be awarded one, two or three stars, but few restaurants in the world have received three stars.
DILL, located on Hverfisgata in Reykjavík, has a few times been selected the country’s best restaurant, such as by White Guide Nordic, Nordic Prize and others.
Ragnar Eiríksson took over as head chef at the end of 2015, when one of the founders of DILL, Gunnar Karl Gíslason, left the country to renovate the restaurant Agern at Grand Terminal in New York, in cooperation with Claus Meyer. Late last year, Agern was awarded a Michelin star.
A post on DILL’s Facebook page this morning reads, “Our hearts are full of deep and sincere gratitude, this is what pure bliss feels like. Thank you.”
