Iceland Review has a new owner. The travel section of Heimur publishing firm was sold this week to MD Reykjavík, publisher of the magazine What’s On, owned by Sigurþór Marteinn Kjartansson.
Included in the purchase is the bimonthly Iceland Review, the longest-running English-language magazine covering Iceland, established in 1963, as well as the tourist information books Around Iceland and various maps for travelers.
Outgoing Iceland Review publisher Jóhannes Benediktsson is pleased with handing the magazine over to MD Reykjavík. “Iceland Review is in very good hands,” he stated. “MD Reykjavík has a reputation for quality and innovation. The future is bright for Iceland Review.”
Heimur publishing company will continue to publish the business magazine Frjáls verslun, as well as the business weekly Vísbending.
In addition to publishing What’s On, the magazine, MD Reykjavík runs two tourist information centers in downtown Reykjavík and the tourist website whatson.is.
