Isavia, the company that operates Keflavík International Airport, recently signed a contract with Secunet about installing automated border control gates at the airport, RÚV reports. Altogether, 12 gates will be installed this summer. They are expected to speed up service in border control and to increase convenience for passengers.

The gates will scan passport information and compare a passport photo with a picture taken of the passenger on the spot. Border control will monitor the use of the gates and take over if the gates indicate that further attention is needed.

Border control at Keflavík International Airport is in the hands of the police.
