Last year saw record sales in dairy products in Iceland, although the number of dairy farms went down by 40 during the same period, RÚV reports.

Total sales of dairy products, measured in liters of milk, was about 139.2 million liters, representing a 4.8 percent increase from the previous year. Total milk production amounted to 150.3 million liters last year, exceeding the production of 2015 by roughly four million liters, and the production of 2000 by more than 46 million liters.

Last year, there were 596 dairy farms in operation in Iceland, or 40 fewer than the previous year. That decrease exceeds that of the three preceding years combined. Since 1980, the number of dairy farms has gone down by 75 percent.
