A fire started at around 04.00 this morning in the United Silicon plant at Helguvík on the Reykjanes peninsula.
Nobody was hurt in the blaze, which engulfed three timber floors. The fire has now been extinguished, but the fire brigade will not leave until all trace of heat has gone. Around ten fire fighters remain at the scene at the time of writing, RÚV reports.
The wind direction is helpful this morning and is blowing smoke out over the harbor, rather than over nearby residents.
Four fire engines attended the scene and, once they leave, the police will take over jurisdiction of the scene to investigate the cause of the fire.
