Ring Road One in South Iceland from Markarfljót river in the west to Vík í Mýrdal in the east will be closed at 2 pm today, due to weather, according to the Icelandic Road Administration. The part of the Ring Road in Southeast Iceland from Kirkjubæjaklaustur in the west to Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon in the east was closed at 11 am.

Due to strong gale winds all over the country, police have advised residents to fasten any loose items that are stored outdoors, RÚV reports. Wind gusts in the West Fjords have reached up to 50 m/sec.

In the East Fjords, the drivers of eight large buses, scheduled to drive through Fjarðarheiði mountain pass (from Seyðisfjörður to Egilsstaðir) with passengers who arrived with the Norröna ferry yesterday, have been unable to do so, due to strong winds. About 300 bus passengers are therefore stranded in Seyðisfjörður.

The passenger ferry Baldur has not been able to sail from Vestmannaeyjar islands today, but, according to Eimskip, it may be able to sail later today.

All Air Iceland flights to Ísafjörður, in the West Fjords, have been canceled today.

Rescue workers have not been called out yet, according to information from ICE-SAR. The wind is still increasing along the south coast, where it will reach a maximum late in the afternoon.

Stormy weather is expected to continue in Southeast Iceland into Friday.
