One of the stars of the Icelandic men’s national football team, Gylfi Þór Sigurðsson, reflected on his career in an interview with RÚV earlier this week.
He touched on the fact that he gets to experience the dream of so many on a daily basis, playing in the English Premier League and being Iceland’s brightest star in the sport. He has had a great season with his team Swansea City and played a big part in its success.
“It simply becomes a part of your daily life,” Gylfi stated. “You stop thinking about how far you’ve come. Of course I was little once and I dreamed about making it to the Premier League and playing for the national team.”
It’s lovely and great that I get to have this as my job and getting paid to play football is the most fun thing I do in life. Without a doubt, there is lots of work that goes into it and I’ve been lucky to avoid injuries and other things,” Gylfi added.
Gylfi is anticipated to play a big role as Iceland gears up to face Croatia in the World Cup qualifiers Sunday night at Laugardalsvöllur arena, Reykjavík.
