Storm in Reykjavík

The Icelandic Met Office asked residents in Iceland to prepare for a storm today, which has currently begun to reach Icelandic shores. It is expected to reach its climax between 6 PM – 9 PM this evening.

“We hope all garden furniture and trampolines have been secured,” the Met Office continued. ICE-SAR, the Icelandic Association for Search and Rescue is already on standby.

The Met Office’s website has declared an Orange alert for the capital area, the South, the South-West, North-West and Central Highlands. The wind speed is expected to reach between 18-25 m/s in Reykjavík, while it is expected to reach up to 20-28 m/s in other regions. Roads are expected to close around the country while the storm passes.

The ongoing Iceland Airwaves music festival encourages those attempting to see Mumford & Sons tonight to arrive in good time, as the storm will reach its climax around the time the building is opened. The weather is expected to improve once the concert is finished.
