The supply and sale of e-books has increased greatly in Iceland over the past year, Morgunblaðið reports.

Egill Örn Jóhannsson, managing director of Forlagið, the largest publisher in Iceland, told Morgunblaðið there was a 60 percent increase in e-book sales in the first nine months of 2017, “and a threefold increase in the first week of November.”

Egill Örn believes this increase to be in addition to traditional book sales and reflects the taste of younger generations. Books are a popular Christmas gift in Iceland, and a surge in publishing known as Jólabókaflóðið, or “the Christmas book flood,” occurs in the months leading up to the holiday.
