Travellers Advised Caution at Jökulsá á fjöllum River

The Icelandic Met Office advises travellers to show caution by Jökulsá á fjöllum river in North Iceland due to a high level of conductivity and possible gas.

The conductivity of Jökulsá á fjöllum river had been increasing over the past two weeks but has now stabilised, RÚV reports.

Radar images and reports of a geothermal odour indicate the increased conductivity in the river was caused by drainage of geothermal water from beneath Kverkfjöll mountain range, on the north side of Iceland’s largest glacier, Vatnajökull.
